Award winning production debuts in schools for Black History Month

Toronto, Ontario – AfriCan Theatre Ensemble (ATE) returns to schools across Ontario from February 1 to April 2, 2010 with Softown, an adaptation of the award winning play originally performed by the Junction Avenue Theatre company in South Africa. The annual tour reaches over 9,000 students from Grade 4 to 12 and displays the talents of professional actors from Canada and across the globe. The tour has brought African Theatre to local schools and communities across Ontario for over 10 years and features a 45-minute performance, which is specifically adapted for a younger audience and concludes with a post-show question-and-answer period with members from the cast and crew. Fundraising Gala Celebrates African theatre in Canada

Toronto, Ont. – AfriCan Theatre Ensemble is pleased to announce its annual fundraising gala on Saturday, October 17, 2009, commencing at 7:00 pm. Featuring special guests including the South African singer Lizzy Mahashe, Ballet Creole, R&B diva Rain Enjoli, drum maestro Mustapha Lawal, as well as award winning Canadian story teller Itah Sadu, this event includes a full gourmet dinner with wine and dessert, a silent auction featuring art works and other unique items, as well as a raffle draw. Proceeds from the fundraising go towards supporting the theatre production work of AfriCan Theatre Ensemble and the enjoyment of African theatre in Canada.
